If you ever wanted to be on the INSIDE of a Start Up EARLY, you should read this entire post very carefully.

Start Up

I’ve been a part of some pretty big projects over the years.

  • Designing forecasting systems for Pepsi
  • Creating $30,000.00 portal systems
  • Launching Affiliate Showcase to a quarter million in recurring revenues in the first six months.
  • Taking jvAlert to 362 on the Alexa rankings
  • Launching a #1 best-selling book
  • Reaching 19.1 million people in 30 days to save lives

And I have a number of BIG projects in the works right now:

But nothing compares to my BIG idea.

I shared a bit of my BIG idea with friends over the years, but I can’t tell the public about it just yet, because it’s a game-changing, social media project that I believe will rock the world.

Okay I know grand ideas are easy, execution is hard and up until now, I haven’t been ready to pull the trigger on this project.

I waited, because I didn’t have the team, the brains and the timing to pull it off.

However, after jvAlert Live San Diego …

The trigger got pulled big-time

I have a truly world-class team in place to drive the marketing, technical, management and financial aspects of a full-blow start-up and we are working very hard right now.

So what are the steps in a successful start-up?

1. Idea, business model and core team (In place)

This is a game changing idea with cutting edge technology, so we need a world-class  class technically savvy team to make that happen.  The good news is that we have one!

2. Garage Stage (In Process)

The core team is now in the process of creating a prototype specification and our financial whiz is putting together financials based on our marketing and revenue models.

This is the blueprint that allows us to move to …

3. Angel Investment for the prototype

We are already talking to angel investors to find a perfect match of someone that shares our vision and has the capacity to fund the creation of a working prototype.

Why not bootstrap it?

Because speed to market is a huge factor for this project and we have more opportunities than we can fund ourselves.

4. Alpha Launch

With a great core team, solid funding, and a clear blueprint in hand, we can quickly launch an Alpha version of the service, which will allow us to build users, test responses and start adding additional features.

5. Full Funding

Grow to a solid, profitable business that dominates the space. With a proven concept and growing user base, we build and grow for the future.

So what does this have to do with you?

Any solid start-up comes down to the people.

You can find money, technology, management … if you have the people.

Our core team is amazing.

The combined track record of our core team is impressive, but this is a very big project and we need some very special people to execute this dream.

Here are a few amazing people that we are looking for …

1. The perfect angel investor

We are actively looking for an angel investor who sees the vision, has $75K or so to invest and who is eager to profit without being a predator.  In particular, I’m looking for someone who I can trust and work with.  I like working with bright, solid, decent people who while seeing the value of money also see the value of long-term relationships and providing solid value for a reasonable return.  Greedy Divas, control freaks, people who already know everything or jerks not needed at this time.

2.  Programming team

People who have already designed world-class social media websites and search engines, who can take a solid working spec,  build it, get it out in record time, take feedback, adjust and modify and upgrade in minutes not days at a cost that a start-up can revel in.

3. Website Graphic Design Whiz

Someone who has the vision, experience and world-class design sense to create a distinctive signature look as  they work with the core team to mock up every page for the prototype.  Figure 1 month to pull together the specification and then 3 months to polish the prototype.  In return, you can say forever that you were the graphic designer for the next ( fill in the blank)  Then  imagine it was the next Twitter, Facebook or … and imagine how you could leverage that.

4. A few (very few) select advisers for our Advisory Board

I have to be selective about this advisory board and please don’t be insulted if you aren’t chosen for it.

5. VC Level investors

For the fully funded stage we will need second round financing.  If you got in as the angel then you have an in.  Same qualities that I’m looking for in an angel investor, but higher financial buyin.

6. Grunt work.

I need two or three very bright people who are willing to do hard, boring grunt work in return for the experience.

Notice I didn’t say teaching or learning.

To be honest there isn’t time to teach you.  If you want instruction take a look at:

This is a situation you watch, wait and listen — the last one is particularly important.

When there is something that you can do that will take a load off of the core team, you volunteer to do it.  Then you get it done.

I’m sure if you do valuable work, we will recognize that and if this takes off — which it will — then there will be MANY opportunities for people who have been there from the start.

What to do if you are one of the amazing people who we are looking for …

It’s simple, just send me an email and let me know what you would like to bring to the table.  You can reach me at ken @ jvAlert.com.

Stay tuned for updates!

All the best,

Ken McArthur
